Intramural Athletics
CMU offers a wide variety of Intramural activities for
students.
Any interested student is encouraged to get involved in the intramural of their choice. All intramurals will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays unless otherwise noted.
Ultimate Frisbee (September)
The object
of the game is to score points by passing the disc to a player
in the opposing end zone, similar to an end zone in football or
rugby. Players may only move one foot while holding the disc.
Flag Football (October-November)
The basic rules of the game are similar to those of
the mainstream game (often called "tackle football" for
contrast), but instead of tackling players to the ground, the
defensive team must remove a flag or flag belt from the ball
carrier ("deflagging") to end a down. In most
organized play, players wear a belt.

Dodgeball (January)
This typically starts soon after the return
from Thanksgiving break and before Christmas break. This is a
good way to get a group of friends together to use both throwing
and dodging tactics to survive the round. Don't let it be you
who is the first one out.
Basketball (February-March)
Basketball is a team
sport. Two teams of five players each try to score by shooting a
ball through a hoop elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game
is played on a rectangular floor called the court, and there is
a hoop at each end. The court is divided into two main sections
by the mid-court line. If the offensive team puts the ball into
play behind the mid-court line, it has ten seconds to get the
ball over the mid-court line. If it doesn't, then the defense
gets the ball. Once the offensive team gets the ball over the
mid-court line, it can no longer have possession of the ball in
the area in back of the line. If it does, the defense is awarded
the ball.
Volleyball (April-May)
Held every Spring this event gives students an
opportunity to form teams that are co-ed instead of the normal
gendered based teams.
