CMU Brass Quintets are offered each semester based on student interest. Coached weekly by Dr. John D. Perkins, members work in collaborative settings sharing their musical knowledge in both solo and ensemble settings and meet the challenges of preparing music from the Renaissance to Jazz.
Maintaining the standard instrumentation of two trumpets, horn, trombone, and tuba, the quintets perform frequently on student recitals, church services, featured concerts, and other special events.
In recent years the quintets have competed at the Music Teachers National Association.
The CMU Trumpet Ensemble performs regularly during the academic year on the Chamber Music recital, band concerts, Concert Band Tour, CMU Invitational Brass Conference, choir concerts, Thursday Morning recitals, and other special events. The ensemble was selected and performed at the 2014 International Trumpet Guild Conference in King of Prussia, PA.
The ensemble is a select group of 6-10 members that is committed to rehearsing and performing during the entire academic year. Directed by Dr. John D. Perkins, rehearsals occur Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:30. Additional rehearsals may be necessary. Permission and/or audition is required by the instructor.
