Dori Waggoner, Ph.D.
Dr. Dori Waggoner serves as Dean of the Swinney Conservatory of Music and chair of the Fine Arts Division. Her teaching responsibilities include theory and applied flute. She also coaches chamber ensembles and assists with the band program.
Prior to seeking an advanced degree, Dori spent several years directing bands in the public schools of Missouri. Her students experienced success performing solos and small ensembles at both district and state levels. Concurrently, her middle school and high school bands earned numerous Superior ratings and were consistently awarded top honors at Music in the Parks Festivals. She remains active as a clinician, adjudicator, presenter, and conductor.
Dori has presented music education research and practitioners clinics at the national MENC conference, Missouri Bandmasters Association Convention, Missouri Music Educators Association Conference, Kansas Bandmasters Association Convention, and Kansas Music Educators Association Conference. Her research interests include error detection skills and pre-service music teacher training. Recently, she was published in both The Instrumentalist and Journal for Research in Music Education.
Dori earned her Bachelor of Music Education from Central Methodist College and her Master of Music and PhD from the University of Missouri. She holds memberships in MENC/MMEA, NBA, MBA, MWBDA, Phi Beta Mu, and Pi Kappa Lambda. She lives in Fayette with her husband, J.B., and son, Thomas.
