MSCC Practicum Information
Practicum courses last for 16 weeks and begin in the fall and spring of each year; respectively August and January. However, there are times, due to client needs, that a student may be required by a site to continue through their breaks in order to adhere to a "do no harm" policy.
In order to begin at a practicum site, students must have their site approved which means that a contract is in place between Central Methodist University (CMU) and the facility providing the supervision experience; the site supervisor is deemed to be a Licensed Professional Counselor, Psychologist, or Psychiatrist; that the student has provided proof of current professional liability insurance as well as having completed any other documentation required but not previously mentioned by the site or CMU from said student.
Students are required to complete 150 hours per 16-week semester, of which there are two semesters, for a total of 300 hours. Practicum students must also meet with a site supervisor for one hour every week for supervision purposes.
