Self-Assessments

  • FOCUS 2 is a self-paced, online career and education planning tool for use by college students. Use FOCUS to help you choose or change your major and also to verify your preferences or early choice of a career field. Create a New FOCUS 2 Account - Returning Users

Career Exploration

Access O*Net Online assessment software and assess your interests and abilities (available to CGES and CLAS students). O*Net Online also provides a wealth of knowledge about a variety of careers.

Occupational Outlook Handbook, published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, contains information on a variety of careers, including salary averages, market outlook, requirements, and descriptions.

CityTownInfo.com, This is a resource that offers information about nearly every city and town in the United States. The information is relevant to one's search for continued education as well as finding a career. It offers detailed information about schools, towns, cities, and many careers.

Interviewing Resources

Mock Interview Series: Interviewing skills are honed during mock interviews offered in the Center Development Center. Practice for the most important meetings of your career.

Preregistered students will have a 45 minute interview (being asked general and behavioral based questions), resume review and receive feedback from the employer.

Big Interview is an online system that allows you to learn about interviewing by watching instructional videos. After learning about interviewing, you can then practice by recording yourself answering questions. These recordings will help you to learn what you're doing well and what you need to improve before your interview day! Big Interview combines training AND practice to help improve your interview technique and build your confidence.

You have at your disposal a variety of tools including:

  • Challenging, virtual mock interviews for all experience levels and dozens of industries
  • A database of thousands of interview questions with tips on how to answer them
  • The ability to rate and share your interview answers for feedback
  • A comprehensive video training curriculum covering all aspects of landing a job
  • A step-by-step interview Answer Builder for crafting answers to behavioral questions

Job Searching Resources

The Career Development Center has many resources available for each step of the job search process.

Handshake: This career management system is an online job bank and web-based recruiting system tailored for Central Methodist University students (Fayette Campus only) and is available 24/7. Students may search for full-time positions, internships, part-time work, summer jobs, and work study! Students may access the system by using their campus email address for the log-in and their CMU ID number for the password.

Missouri Job Network

NAIA Career Center offers job postings, mostly Graduate Assistants and Internships offered by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
