Biology Degree Program

Biology is the study of life. From biospheres, ecosystems, and biological communities to organisms, cells, and DNA, biology offers students the opportunity to delve broadly and deeply into the science of living systems. CMU biology majors receive excellent preparation for a wide variety of careers, combining classroom-based concepts with hands-on laboratory experiences, along with strong analysis, reasoning, and communication skills.

As a CMU biology major, you will have opportunities to:

  • Be mentored by faculty who are experts in their fields, to help guide your academic and professional success.
  • Develop skills as you gain hands-on experiences in laboratories both on campus and in the field, such as at CMU's Besgrove Hodge Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • Complete a capstone internship or a research project and present your project to faculty and students at our Interdisciplinary Science Seminar.
  • Receive the preparation needed to further your education in graduate or professional school, or start a job in your field after graduating.
  • Interact with professional schools with which CMU has agreements, including medical (MD and DO), veterinary, dental, and physical therapy schools.
