Physical Therapist Assistant Degree Program

The Physical Therapist Assistant program at CMU prepares students for a rewarding career as a physical therapist assistant (PTA). A PTA is an educated and licensed clinician that works under the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist. PTAs help people of all ages who have health-related conditions that affect physical function in their daily lives.

About This Program

The technical courses within the PTA program allow for hands-on learning in the classroom and laboratory. Students also participate in clinical experiences, which give them a real-world view of the PTA profession.

In addition to the Central Methodist University Fayette campus application, our physical therapy program requires a separate application to be sent to our PTA faculty in order to be accepted. Click below to fill out the application and send to Megan Roemer at mroemer@centralmethodist.edu or 411 Central Methodist Square, Fayette, MO 65248.

The “2+2” Option for PTA/OTA Majors

Central Methodist University offers students a unique path to expanded employment opportunities with two rehab healthcare certifications. Students who wish to train as both physical therapist assistants and occupational therapy assistants can earn both degrees in just four years.

This option enables a student to obtain an Associate of Applied Science in PTA degree and a Bachelor of Science in OTA degree from CMU in as little as four years. Students meeting the requirements for an A.A.S. in PTA who successfully pass their board certification exams are eligible for direct admittance into the OTA Bachelor of Science degree program.

With a plan that allows a seamless transition from PTA to OTA programmatic coursework and an OTA programmatic schedule that is employment friendly, certified PTAs taking advantage of this option will leave CMU as some of the most marketable individuals in the profession.

Please contact Dr. Megan Roemer, PTA Program Director, at mroemer@centralmethodist.edu for more information regarding this degree track.
