Message from the Vice President
A message from Dr. Bill Sheehan ’84, Vice President of Advancement and Alumni Relations
Greetings from Central! I am thrilled and honored to serve as the Vice President of Advancement and Alumni Relations. I look forward to renewing friendships and helping to engage alumni and friends of CMU to strengthen the University.
Whether you know the institution as Central College, CMC, or CMU, I believe you will be impressed with our institution. In my short time back on campus, I can attest first hand to how committed our faculty and staff are to advancing the education of the students. Our students are academically prepared prior to arriving on campus and continue to be pushed during their time at Central. It’s clear to me that our students enjoy learning and CMU is helping them become productive leaders.
The Advancement and Alumni Relations office hosts events, provides institutional updates, and conducts personal meetings to ensure our alumni and friends are knowledgeable about the latest university news and information. As a private institution, the success of the university relies on the generosity of our alumni and friends. Throughout our history, many individuals and organizations have thoughtfully answered the call. We invite you to support Central through your gifts of time, talent, and treasure.
Financial gifts to Central help us achieve our goals of providing an exceptional educational experience to our students. Currently, our top funding priorities are:
- Scholarships: One of our greatest needs and one of the best investments you can make; supporting a student’s education through annual giving or establishing an endowment directly impacts a student’s opportunity to succeed.
- Academics: CMU faculty members constantly find new ways to engage students in their chose fields and we are proud to facilitate the opportunities and encourage further development.
- Facilities: If you have not been on campus recently, I encourage you to come and visit! The University is continually improving the infrastructure and private support has been critical in the preservation and modernization of our historic facilities.
- Athletics: On and off the field, our student-athletes are developing life skills through their experiences as Eagles. Collectively, our student-athletes succeed academically in impressive fashion – representing an overall GPA of 3.26 and 14 teams earning distinction as an NAIA Scholar team for the 2018-2019 academic year
The Advancement and Alumni Relations Office believes our role in the life of Central is to cultivate relationships in a manner that strengthens the University’s future. Our goal is to engage all alumni and friends to make CMU a truly special place for learning.
